Harland Stonecipher, Chief
Executive Officer, President, Chairman of the Board of Directors
Harland Stonecipher founded Pre-Paid Legal Services®, Inc.
by accident – quite literally. In 1969, he was involved in a serious
auto accident. Although he was not at fault, his legal bills accumulated.
He had auto insurance, medical insurance, and life insurance. The only type
of protection he didn’t have was for legal services. Mr. Stonecipher
started what would become Pre-Paid Legal Services®, Inc., in
1972, with a vision to make legal services accessible to millions of
Americans.
Today, Pre-Paid Legal is a publicly-traded company listed on the New
York Stock Exchange with members across the United
States and Canada. A pioneer of the legal
service plan industry in the United States, Mr. Stonecipher
has developed a unique system that gives middle-income families and
individuals access to quality legal services for a monthly membership cost
of $26 or less.
